This procedure is done when a tooth has severe decay and is broken down or if a tooth is only partially visible in the mouth like many wisdom or impacted teeth. An incision is made to gain access to the tooth and root surface. The dentist sections the tooth and removes it in pieces. Sutures and other medications are placed to help aid in healing of the extraction site.
